CASTomize is a 3D printed orthopedic cast with modular recovery system, revolutionized by a group of students from Singapore University of Technology & Design (SUTD) and Singapore Management University (SMU). The minimalist design eliminates the painstaking issues of the decade long unchanged plaster and fiberglass casts. Problems like not being waterproof, having insufficient ventilation and being bulky proved to be a unanimous hindrance to past patients. Enhancing the basic function of the cast, CASTomize introduces a system that speeds up the fracture recovery process too. The students team is currently undergoing further research studies to overcome limitations of the manufacturing process, before further trials to validate it as a commercial product.
